Is Organized Religion Necessary Video

This is a pretty big question in modern times and it has roots in a couple of realities. One is — let’s face it — we’re a little lazy when it comes to God. Another is the radical individuality that modern culture exalts as an ideal virtue. And another, the shameful and ungodly deeds of some religious organizations that has prompted some to conclude that “if this is what organized religion does, count me out.” But let me urge you to rethink this.

First Christianity was never meant to be a “Lone Ranger” sort of thing. Remaining godly and faithful to God’s commandments is hard even with the encouragement of others — how much more difficult — no, impossible — would it be without others to encourage us? Individuality is all right in moderation, but we are social creatures at our core, and individuality is no way to grow spiritually. Hebrews 10:25 commands that we meet together and encourage each other.

What about all the terrible things that organized religion has done? Consider Forrest Gump’s famous line “Stupid is as stupid does,” — our deeds reveal who we really are, not just our claims. Lots of folks have claimed to be Christians, but only those whose lives really reflect the life and teachings of Jesus really are. Much has been done in the name of Christianity that reflects nothing but raw worldliness and ungodliness — greed, hate, rebellion, lust, and worse. Don’t call such people Christian or their religious organizations a church. And don’t avoid organized religion on the basis of hypocrites.

So, we’re down to one last reality — laziness. Wouldn’t it be a shame to miss Heaven, because you couldn’t make yourself get out of bed?
